Adminworld

Revision as of 17:33, 21 August 2023 by Allink (talk | contribs) (Fix broken link)

The adminworld was a special world for admins that was added to the server in early 2013 and continued to exist until the server's closure on August 17, 2023. The concept was suggested on the forums by buildcarter8 on February 6, 2013 and was implemented shortly afterwards. Since then, the world has been reset on a few occasions, but only two iterations have been publicly archived as of August 2023.

Isometric render of the second iteration, which was the most well-known due to its longevity.

The world was initially handled by an external plugin maintained by disaster839, but this functionality was later integrated to the TotalFreedomMod in August 2013 after a falling-out occurred which led to his plugins being removed from the server. Initially, non-admins couldn't access the world unless they were added as a "guest", which gave them access temporarily. This restriction was lifted in 2020, allowing non-admins to enter (but not modify) the adminworld. Despite this, the world was frequently griefed by both rogue staff and players abusing exploits and in some cases wiped by accident.

Known Iterations

Iterations of the world often consists of old spawnpoints, pixel art, or even personal projects from dozens if not hundreds of admins over the course of a few years.

The first iteration was generated sometime between February 7 and February 10. It was officially reset on January 29, 2015 following a large-scale grief that occurred just a few days earlier and a download link was provided in the Super Admin Lounge for those who were interested. The world has since been re-uploaded to the Internet Archive.

Trivia

  • The name of the world remained consistent until mid-2020 when it was renamed to "staffworld" after management at the time attempted to generalize the server's rank naming conventions. When this was reverted a few months later, it was renamed back to "adminworld".
